I can remember about twenty or so years ago, always making sure that I had a screensaver setup correctly on my computer. These screensavers were not for fun they were to stop serious damage occurring to your crt monitor. You see the problem was that if an image was static and stayed on your monitor for a long period of time, chances are it could burn in to the screen and leave a permanent faint silhouette distorting your view. So this was damage to be avoided especially if your monitor was quite a pricey model.
