Serial

Every time we come across an ancient Singer HVAC system we say “this has got to be the last one we will ever see.' And then another Singer turns up a few months later. Eventually they will all be gone but, in the meantime, here’s the serial number code: look for a single letter in the center of the serial number, which will denote the year of manufacture. We suspect that the adjacent two numbers are the month, but not sure.

A = 1973, B = 1974, C = 1975, D = 1976, E = 1977, F = 1978, G = 1979, H = 1980, J = 1981, K = 1982. In 1982, it became the climate control division of Snyder General and the name was dropped, although Daikin now owns the brand and manufactures mini-splits under the Singer name in Thailand. So the “F” in the serial number below indicates the unit was manufactured in 1978.

Identify the sewing machine's serial number. If it has no letter prefix, it was created prior to the 1900s. A single-letter prefix means the machine was created from 1900 to 1935. Visit Singer's website for more specific clarity on your machine's model (see References). Thanks to Singer’s recent 160th anniversary celebration, I was able to pinpoint my antique machine’s model year by entering its serial number into Singer’s online database. It’s nice to know my sewing machine was manufactured in 1907.
